In FiveM, a resource is an independently loadable unit, such as a script, interface, vehicle or map. Copying files is only the start: also check the manifest, dependencies, framework and any required database changes.
The following sequence can be used safely in a separate test environment. Restarting a resource on a production server can affect players and ongoing operations, so agree on a maintenance window and rollback plan beforehand.
1. Check the download and dependencies
- Is it from the official author or an authorised distributor, and are you licensed to use it?
- Are the game edition, artifact, framework and documented release compatible?
- Is a database adapter, library, inventory system or another resource required?
- Is an SQL import, configuration change or separate licence activation required?
2. Put the actual resource folder in the correct location
- Back up affected files and the database; reversing SQL changes is not always straightforward.
- Extract the package in a test environment. Find the manifest in the resource root, usually fxmanifest.lua.
- Place the actual resource in the resources folder of the supplied server data directory, not the entire download with multiple nested folders.
- Apply the documented configuration and keep secrets out of shared or client-side configuration.
- Manage dependencies and the database schema according to the author's instructions. Use a test database first, not your production database.
3. refresh and ensure are different operations
In the server console, refresh rescans the resources directory. ensure starts the named resource, or restarts it if it is already running. sajat_resource is only an example name: use your own verified folder name.
refresh
ensure sajat_resource4. The absence of red errors is not enough
- Read the resource loading log and check for missing dependencies.
- Test the script's intended action with a regular player account too.
- If the script stores persistent state, check data retention after signing out and back in.
- Monitor performance and errors with the same test before and after the change.
5. Common installation errors
| Symptom | Cause to investigate |
|---|---|
| Resource not found | Folder name, nested directories, manifest and refresh. |
| Missing export or dependency | The dependency version, startup and load order. |
| SQL vagy connection hiba | Adapter, authentication, database schema and the author's migration procedure. |
| Works for an administrator, but not a player | Documented permissions and server-side checks. |
| It fails only after restarting | server.cfg, startup order and unsaved configuration. |
